“So this is what you get when you cross a frustrated Rossi with an axe,” Quinn murmured. “A shirtless, sexy lumberjack.”

Last night he’d grabbed the last of the wood and mentioned chopping more today. She hadn’t expected to wake up to that as her view from her kitchen window. Hell if she even knew what ended up in the breakfast casserole. Hard to measure the milk while ogling the way his shoulders, chest, and abs rippled as he split logs in the morning sunlight.

At one point, she’d actually drooled down the front of her shirt. Thankfully, that was after she’d finished the casserole.

Again, his axe went up, then down, splitting the wood with so much power, she heard herself gasp.

Nope.

Didn’t have to wonder about the body she’d kissed in her laundry room last night. Those were muscles earned by years of hard work.

But figuring out her next move wasn’t nearly as easy as watching him toss another log over his shoulder. He carried it from the edge of the woods back to the stump he was using to chop the wood. Like it didn’t even weigh five pounds.

She rested her cheek in her hand and released a long sigh. Jumping him in the middle of the snow wasn’t going to happen. No matter how hot he was, it was freaking cold out there. Maybe lure him inside with the promise of coffee and food?

Lure?

Quinn snorted. “Way to go. You sound like the creepy old witch in ‘Hansel and Gretel.’” She spied his body one more time. Nothing but lean and cut. They couldn’t be more different. She shook her head, glad for the interruption when the coffee maker beeped.

Taking him coffee would make an excellent excuse to get close. She poured him a cup, biting her lower lip. Should she kiss him good morning? Was that his expectation?

Was it sad that she didn’t really have any expectations? Last night, sitting on the sofa, talking, kissing, and staring at the fire had ended up being the best date of her entire life. Nothing compared to it.

The worry about her mom ruining this was a solid three feet of snow and thirty miles of ice away. For now, Landon was hers. Their future might last as long as the snow did, but that was the disappointment of life she’d grown to expect.

Quinn poured Landon a cup of coffee before braving the cold morning. He struck the next log, two pieces falling to the ground.

She crossed the yard through the semi-cleared path he’d made to the woodshed. The sunshine glinted off the sweat on his shoulders. Sweat discolored the brim of his navy baseball cap, the dampness also curling the ends of his dark hair.

The man was even more gorgeous up close.

He took off his hat, bent the brim, and replaced it. “Good morning.”

The deep rumble of his voice ran through her veins, making the twenty-degree weather nearly unnoticeable. “Good morning. Um, thank you for chopping wood.” She passed him the cup. “Thought you might use a pick-me-up.
